Senior Costing Specialist

Our Fashion client is looking for a Senior Costing Specialist to add to their team. This person will report to the VP of Global Sourcing and Production.

Main Duties

The candidate will be working in the Sourcing and Production department.
1. Negotiate and confirm garment F.O.B pricing for assigned category/line on a timely basis.
2. Maintain seasonal global gross pricing margin report for assigned category.
3. Development of seasonal costing strategy.
4. Communication of costing status to cross functional teams to develop solutions to improve the pricing margin.
5. Work closely with specific design, raw materials, development and merchandising to anticipate future garment technologies and trends.
6. Develop capabilities with existing factories. Build strong, lasting relationships with vendors & cross-functional teams to help foster an environment of partnership & trust.
7. Lead projects around process efficiency, costing tools, capability improvements, sourcing strategy etc.
8. Ensure that all seasonal calendar timelines are met.
9. Develop sourcing strategy with merchants and place products with off shore vendors.
10. Identify and mitigate high-risk areas within the production and delivery process.
11. Effectively scale production while maintaining product quality, margins, and on time delivery.
12. Identify and select new vendors to enhance capabilities and capacity for production.
13. Create and implement seasonal time and action calendar with strong sense of urgency.
14. Serve as a liaison between the company and vendors.
Develop and maintain strong partnerships with manufacturing base and agents.
15. Develop product costing strategy and understand cost engineering process to help merchandising team hit seasonal margin targets while maintaining the highest quality.
16. Work closely with quality control team to identify and mitigate potential quality problems.
17. Determine which factory will develop products based on costs, quality, and turnaround time.
18. Play a key role in planning and negotiating capacity and pricing with factories.
19. Oversee seasonal schedule to ensure prototypes, photo samples, and finished goods are delivered on time.
20. Communicate any issues pertaining to delivery to planning and merchandising teams.
21. Participates in all production meetings.
22. Review all returns with tech, PD, merchandising and quality quarterly to refit product and make changes.
23. Additional responsibilities as given by the VP Global Sourcing and Production.


1.  College Degree in fashion or equivalent. B.A degree in Merchandising, Business or related field an asset. 
2.  7-10 years of experience in apparel costing including a strong background in overseas sourcing, manufacturing, costing and quality control in the fashion and apparel industry. 
3. Solid understanding of global sourcing trends, strong cost negotiation skills.
4. Strong knowledge of fabrics, prints, garment construction, product development and production.
5. Detail oriented with strong follow-through, ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects. Strong time management and problem solving skills, proven success in meeting deadlines.
6. Excellent in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). 
7. Fit and pattern making experience an asset.
8. Prior experience working with Walmart.
