Our client is seeking an experienced and strategic Financial Controller to lead and oversee all financial operations within a dynamic international import/export environment. This role is critical in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, strong cash flow management, and providing strategic insight to support executive decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  
Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee full-cycle financial operations, including month-end and year-end close
  • Manage company cash flow across all bank accounts
  • Prepare and present financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and performance analysis
  • Review internal financial reports and provide strategic recommendations to leadership
  • Review and approve P&L reports tied to order confirmations, ensuring profitability and compliance

Credit, Risk & Foreign Exchange (FX)

  • Conduct client credit analysis and approve credit limits
  • Monitor credit exposure and support collections efforts
  • Manage FX exposure and mitigate currency risk
  • Oversee import/export financial transactions and ensure banking compliance

Compliance & Tax

  • Manage corporate tax filings and GST/QST remittances
  • Lead internal and external audits, ensuring documentation accuracy
  • Oversee payroll administration, pay equity compliance, and group benefits
  • Review and approve credit notes and claims per company policy

Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 2 accounting professionals
  • Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with trading, logistics, and quality teams

Qualifications

  • CPA designation (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Experience in import/export or trading environments strongly preferred
  • Proven experience managing cash flow, FX exposure, and credit risk
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Business Central (required)
  • Advanced Excel skills (Power BI considered an asset)
  • Bilingual in French and English (written and verbal)
  • Strong analytical skills, business judgment, and executive presence
