Senior Technical Designer – Outerwear

Our client is currently seeking a Senior Technical Designer to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating tech packs, fits and grading rules for each style, both branded and private label. 
 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Production Team to gain clear direction and consensus of fit intent to ensure size and fit consistency.
  • Create technical specification packages clearly for bulk production, including flat sketches with measurements, construction details, components, logos, decoration, and bulk measurement specifications with appropriate grades, tolerances and any predefined brand standards.
  • Work closely with the Production Team to communicate fit comments accurately to vendors/factories on fit corrections, approvals, and quality issues.
  • Prepare fit sessions and make appropriate fit/construction adjustments and recommendations.
  • Keep clear records of fittings.
  • Follow up samples status and maintain fit approval calendar.
  • Measure and evaluate all proto and production samples.
  • Support Production Team in identifying potential production and quality issues.
  • Miscellaneous design tasks, as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design or Certification in Apparel Manufacturing, Design, Patternmaking or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years experience in the apparel Industry with extensive knowledge in patternmaking including grading, construction, manufacturing methods, and fit for women’s outerwear.
  • Ability to prioritize, work effectively in a fast-paced environment and under pressure with tight deadlines and must be able to provide a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and French, and demonstrates proactive problem solving skills.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multi task, and can easily adjust to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to properly measure garments according to standards.
  • Must be flexible and able to take direction and have a willingness to learn.
  • Expertise in Adobe CS (Illustrator and Photoshop) and Excel, proficient with other MS Office programs.
