One of Canada’s leading retailers is looking for a Merchandise Financial Planner to develop seasonal, monthly plans by classification that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the organization. The lucky candidate will work closely with buyers to create key item units plans, to ensure the achievement of sales strategies. Maximizes sales and inventory turns, and maintains margin by working in partnership with the buyers, and acting as their financial support. The Merchandise financial planner will report to the Director.

Responsibilities:

– Maximize profitability for the division by producing positive results in sales volume, gross profit, inventory turnover and any other controllable elements of net profit.
– Manage assigned classes by controlling open to buy, inventory levels and deliveries through communication with buyer.
– Ensures final plans result in profitability for a division by developing a merchandise financial strategy in direction with the buyers assortment strategy.
– Develop markdowns and inventory flow plans with the buyers.
– Develop and re-plan financial strategies, by working with the buyers and using historical information and planning software (Cognos TM1).
– Ensure that the buyers commit to the financial plans when developing their assortment plans.
– Ensure proper analysis of business from the prior season by preparing post season recaps.
– Execute ongoing business analysis and implements changes where necessary.
– Quickly react to merchandise trends by identifying fast and slow selling items, doing simulations, and suggesting, reordering or taking markdowns as warranted.
– Assist by preparing financial and store analysis as required.
Requirements:

– Bachelors degree in Finance or Business
– Minimum 3-5 years of experience working for a retail organization
– Previous retail planning experience and / or financial analysis, an asset
– Strong analytical and numerical reasoning skills
– Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills to meet deadlines. 
– Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. 
– Energetic, self-motivated, and results-oriented. 
– Proven team player who is both flexible and adaptable. 
– Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn new software (Cognos TM1, AS400, Microstrategy)
